Try a few of these ideas out. Make it a daily routine to do at least one thing a day.
Puzzles: Crossword puzzles are an excellent mind exercise. They are actually quite addicting. If you are new to doing crossword puzzles start out with easier ones. Then continually try to increase your skill level by buying more difficult puzzles. This will keep the brain stimulated. Jigsaw puzzles are good for your recollecting process. Word finding puzzles and Sudoku are other examples.
Socialize: Believe it or not it has been proven that a healthy social life and interaction with people, whether it be one person or a group such as a bowling team or a local church is healthy for the mind. Staying home watching TV or movies, living like a hermit will reign in the boundaries of your mind and make your world small. Your mind will not be tested or challenged like it needs to be.
Read: Reading is one of the best sources of mental exercise. As you know all reading is good but try to find books or magazines that might challenge your mind.
Games: Games are fun, obviously, but they can be good for mental function also. They can test your knowledge and mental dexterity. Try games are competitive or have certain time limitations that cause a sense of urgency. Some video games (yes I said video games) can be mentally stimulating also.
Physical Exercise: Not just mental, but physical exercise is also important to the functioning of the Brain. Keeping a safe and healthy exercise regimen will not only make you feel better physically but will aid in the flow of blood to the brain. Try bowling, golf, running, walking, and aerobics for example.
